The National Economic Council Implementation Monitoring Committee, has applauded the Akwa Ibom State Government on the quality, pace and choice of its capital projects.
The Committee gave the commendation when it called at the Commissioner for Special Duties, Rt. Hon. Okpolupm Etteh.
The Committee which is in Akwa Ibom to monitor capital projects implementation as first among the South South states to be visited, is working alongside 5 other teams to achieve the mandate in the six geo-political zones.
Rt. Hon. Okpolupm Etteh urged the committee to recommend in their report the urgent need for Federal Government presence to be felt in Akwa Ibom State as number one oil producing State.
He also conducted the team round projects under his Ministry’s purview including the Dakkada Towers, Victor Attah International Airport and the Maintenance Repairs and Overhaul facility within the airport.
The Special Duties helmsman outlined features of the Dakkada Towers to include a high rise building terrace space, 21 floors of lettable office area, a technical / Utility building area, drivers lounge, gate house and access controls.
While showing the delegation round the VAIA new Terminal, Rt. Hon. Etteh explained that the project would be completed by December 2021.
He said the terminal building spans 180meters in length, 85 meters width and 14.5 meters high with a total area of approximately 23,000M2.
Other features of the terminal according to the Commissioner for Special Duties are a three floor architectural design, the international and domestic wings, the meeters and greeters area on the ground floor, the arrivals on the first floor and the departure area on the second floor.
He also said the facility is to have four escalators, seven lifts and staircase, in addition to five boarding bridges with two remode access and noted that, contract for the completion of the MRO had been awarded by the state government and works ongoing. “Right now there’s no MRO facilities in the whole of West Africa. At completion, this facility will really boast our IGR and create more job opportunities in the State.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seaport, Mr Akan Okon, who is the HC Zone Rep and Team lead, said the essence of the tour was to ascertain how much impact the projects would have on the economy.
Mr Okon also thank his Counterpart in the Ministry of Special Duties, Rt. Hon. Etteh for warm reception accorded the team while commended the companies handling the projects for the quality of the work done.
Furthermore, a member of NEC, Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget & National Planning, Abuja, Mr Daniel Ikara commented “I am impressed Akwa Ibom State has taken the lead to provide an intelligent building that accommodate the IOC’s.”
Recalled that in 2016, the National Economic Council mandated all International Oil Companies (IOC’s) resident in Lagos to relocate their operational offices to South South or wherever they are exploring but they declined on the basis of inadequate facilities for their operations.
Other members of the NEC implementation monitoring Team who accompanied in the inspection were, Mrs Amadi Vivian, Mr. Lawali Musa and Arc. Augustine Bassey.
